Introducing... The Copper Coin
over 4 years ago – Mon, Dec 09, 2019 at 10:23:12 PM

Though we won't be able to manufacture the bulk of our Kickstarter rewards until we've successfully reached our funding target (45% of the way there!), we made an exception for The Copper Coin.

This item will be familiar to any fan of Dark Souls. To show the level of craft to which Tune & Fairweather aspires, we wanted to put our own unique stamp on this idea for one of You Died's rarest Kickstarter rewards. The world is desperate to go digital, but let's not forget the joy of physical treasure you can carry around in your pocket... or slip onto your bookshelf.

Any backer who pledges at the "One-Shot" tier or above will have a chance to receive one of these in their package. A handful of the highest tiers are guaranteed a 100% Copper Coin drop rate.

GOOD LUCK!

Eurogamer features You Died book extract!
over 4 years ago – Mon, Dec 09, 2019 at 12:23:48 PM

We spend a lot of time on our Kickstarter campaign page discussing the design features of the book and why we wanted to create a hardcover edition, however it's been pointed out that we don't go deeply into the book's actual content. To correct this oversight we thought we'd share a sample chapter from the book that just went live on Eurogamer this weekend.

In this chapter Keza discusses the game's unique approach to difficulty.

But WAIT... there's more!

If you'd like to go deeper, there's also a chapter that games website IGN posted when the paperback version launched. It discusses the funny, unexpected and sometimes aggravating situations that can arise with the game's unique invasion mechanics.

Thanks so much for supporting the campaign. We're almost halfway to our funding target. Don't forget to keep spreading the word and come say "hi" to us on the book's official Twitter page.

Till next time!

Do judge our book by its cover
over 4 years ago – Fri, Dec 06, 2019 at 09:45:06 AM

In our campaign’s Kickstarter video I discussed how the rose window from the cathedral in Anor Londo informed the ornamental shape language of the new cover design. One detail I neglected to mention was the fact that our designer Andrew arranged the elements in such a way as to pay subtle tribute to the illustration Paul Canavan painted for the paperback version of the book. Honouring the past, even while creating something new. That’s how we approached every aspect of this project. We hope this level of care and intentionality will help you appreciate the hardcover edition even more when we finally get it printed and into your hands. - Jason

Day 1 is a wrap!
over 4 years ago – Sun, Dec 01, 2019 at 02:42:38 AM

When Keza and I published the paperback edition of You Died back in early 2016, we worked with a traditional publisher. Speaking for myself only, I had a somewhat condescending view of crowdfunding and felt like we were taking the moral high road by working with a third-party who could put the book out without us needing to ask readers to financially contribute to make the project a reality. With the first day of the Kickstarter behind us I can say with confidence: I was full of shit. It has been amazing to see the names of each individual backer joining the campaign throughout the first day. Though I feel infinitely more vulnerable putting the fate of this project in the hands of our audience right from the start, I feel so much more gratitude. The whole effort feels more personal and meaningful.  We’re about 16% of the way to “Victory Achieved”. Still a long way to go. But I wanted to take a moment right here at the start to personally thank each person who backed us on the first day of the campaign. Your support means a great deal to all of us. To anybody who retweeted the book’s announcement or told your friends about us or just left a small “Deprived” donation as a sign of goodwill, we appreciate you.  More updates to come!  And don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and Instagram @youdiedbook.  Onwards! - Jason (on behalf of everyone on the You Died/T&F team)
